The Employer Sponsored Visa

Labour shortages are common and can affect businesses in many industries. You may find your business needs staff but there may not be local workers available to take on these roles or they don’t have the specialised skills required to fill a position. Sponsoring an overseas worker may be a solution to help overcome your labour shortage.

Employer sponsored visas enable Australian businesses to employ suitable overseas workers to fill positions within their business when they can’t find suitably qualified Australian workers.

Visa Solutions has worked with businesses for many years to bring foreign workers into Australia on employer sponsored visas. Working with you, we will ensure all sponsor and employee requirements are met so any overseas workers you employ can start working for you without delay.

When it comes to employer sponsored visas, there are a few options available.

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa

The temporary skill shortage visa (TSS) enables employers to sponsor overseas workers to fill labour shortages within their business. There are four streams:

  • Short-term stream
  • Medium-term stream
  • Labour agreement stream
  • Subsequent entrant

Each of these streams allows applicants to stay in Australia for varying amounts of time.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme

The regional sponsored migration scheme enables regional employers to address identified labour shortages within their region by sponsoring skilled workers where skilled Australian workers can’t be sourced.

There are three streams which form the regional sponsored migration scheme, these are:

  • Employer sponsored stream
  • Labour agreement stream
  • Subsequent entrant

Each of these streams has its own specific eligibility criteria, conditions and length of stay.

Employer Nomination Scheme

The employer nomination scheme enables overseas workers who are nominated by their employer to live and work in Australia permanently.

The three streams that make up the employer nomination scheme are:

  • Direct entry stream
  • Labour agreement stream
  • Temporary residence transition stream

The employer nomination scheme offers a pathway to permanent residency.
